COURSE CONTENT: Taught by Ben Howe, an accomplished photo realist with over 20 years experience as a practising artist, students will have the opportunity to explore both traditional and contemporary oil painting techniques to create either a single or series of realistic portraits. For students who are quite advanced in their practice, there are also a limited number of spaces for those who wish to develop and individual piece or body of work under Ben's mentorship. MATERIALS: Students are required to bring or purchase their own materials for this course. Discounted materials are available to purchase through the school in the studio.

Throughout the term, Ben will guide students through a series of processes in order to create a single or series of realistic portraits in oil paints. Each week, students will explore a range of traditional and contemporary techniques which may include observational drawing, palette prep and colour management, surface preparation, brush work approaches, alla prima painting and under painting, and glazing.

Please remember to wear old clothing and shoes to class as paints and other art materials may stain clothing.

Students are required to bring or purchase their own materials for this course. Materials purchased through the school are priced with a 20% discount, and can be picked up at the beginning of the first class.
