COURSE CONTENT: This course is appropriate for students who wish to explore art making processes that involve both figurative and non figurative elements with a focus on colour, texture, composition and content (meaning).

Taught by emerging Melbourne based artist Brock Q Piper who has a passion and commitment to sharing his deep and rich knowledge with students who are keen to develop their creativity and ability to complete art works that contain personal expression and artistic knowledge.

MATERIALS: Students are required to bring or purchase their own materials for this course. A materials list will be emailed to students a few weeks prior to the first class; materials purchased through the school are priced with a 20% discount, and can be picked up at the beginning of the first class.

 
THU 01/02/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm Composition
In this class you will examine drawing techniques to explore the principals of composition. Students will also learn about work formats, line, tone and how to alter composition using simple methods. Artists will be referred to throughout this program.
 
THU 08/02/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm Colour Theory and Application
Students will discuss and experiment with colour creating a range of vivid palettes and growing an awareness of nuances in the ways that colours are juxtaposed and how they work along side each other.
 
THU 15/02/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm The Meaning of "Abstraction"
This experimental class will enlighten students towards an understanding of the differences between 20th Century art movements and what distinguishes abstraction from other modern movements.
 
THU 22/02/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm Where does Abstraction Begin and End?
Continuing with small projects, you will gain a further understanding of how to define Abstract art which will lead to the creation of more informed and deeper works.
 
THU 01/03/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm The Tools of Abstraction
In this class you will learn about different materials and techniques that can enrich the surface of your art works.
 
THU 08/03/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm Individual Projects
Students will work on a major individual piece or series of works for the remainder of the term.
 
THU 15/03/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm Individual Projects
Students will work on a major individual piece or series of works for the remainder of the term.
 
THU 22/03/2018 10:00 am-4:00pm Individual Projects
Students will work on a major individual piece or series of works for the remainder of the term.
